From #1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King, the most riveting and unforgettable story of kids confronting evil since It—publishing just as the second part of It, the movie, lands in theaters.

In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis’s parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there’s no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents—telekinesis and telepathy—who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and ten-year-old Avery Dixon. They are all in Front Half. Others, Luke learns, graduated to Back Half, “like the roach motel,” Kalisha says. “You check in, but you don’t check out.”

In this most sinister of institutions, the director, Mrs. Sigsby, and her staff are ruthlessly dedicated to extracting from these children the force of their extranormal gifts. There are no scruples here. If you go along, you get tokens for the vending machines. If you don’t, punishment is brutal. As each new victim disappears to Back Half, Luke becomes more and more desperate to get out and get help. But no one has ever escaped from the Institute.

As psychically terrifying as Firestarter, and with the spectacular kid power of It, The Institute is Stephen King’s gut-wrenchingly dramatic story of good vs. evil in a world where the good guys don’t always win.

Thank you again Mr. King for the many hours of entertainment you’ve provided through the years and again the past few days with this latest saga. I look forward to the next one.

5 stars because I can’t give 4.5. Overall a wonderful read but I did feel like it droned on a bit here and there. Other than that, a cool story and like able characters.

Very familiar king style which nothing wrong with that subplots and main plot all intertwined very engaging and disturbing content concerning children not your vampire monster story but the cruelty of mankind but who better if you like stepan king you will like this book
  • Disgusting

This book is horrendous, ugly, poorly written, and just plain boring. The plot makes no sense, the characters are boring and shallow, and the writing is so bad I barely know what’s going on, and I’m a reading teacher. I do not recommend this book at all.

Absolutely fantastic story. I found myself picking it up to only read a few chapters but that’s impossible with this book. You pick it up and immediately sink in to the world that King masterfully created. Well done!

  • Good old Stephen King is back

    By Destingator
I’ve read nearly all of Stephen King’s books with great pleasure, but following a couple of recent efforts - including one he co-authored with his son that I couldn’t finish - I feared that I had lost him. I’m pleased to report that he’s back in great form. Great plot, empathetic and truly villainous characters, fast pace, lots of scary developments, and satisfying ending. Welcome back, Mr. King!
  • One of King’s best

In the way that only Stephen King can, he terrorizes without any typical monsters. But “everyday” monsters exist and this book has its fair share. I could barely put it down.

Very enjoyable book. I am surprised at the reviews I read complaining about King “shoving his political views down the readers throat” and kept waiting to see what that was going to look like. Turns out there were 2 one liners about the current president, spoken by two different characters. One early in the book, one late in the book. Don’t pass this story up because some random person told you there was a political agenda in it. Or because I told you that I didn’t see one. Go be a constant reader and find out for yourself. I hope you get lost in the story like I did. Thank you Mr King, for another great story. I look forward to visiting these new friends again🥰
